Camp Happy Days takes place at Camp Bob Cooper in Summerton, SC. It is a 4-H Camp owned and operated by Clemson University. Camp Happy Days rents the campground the week of July 4th. This year the dates are July 1 – July 7, 2018.

This one week is the most amazing week of the year to kids battling cancer and their siblings. It will be a life changing experience for you. To be around these kids who are so brave, so fun, and so positive is truly indescribable. They are all fighting tremendous battles and not only are they kickin’ cancer, they are doing it while being incredible individuals. There are no words to describe it, you just have to experience it.

Yes it is absolutely amazing, but it is also a whole lot of hard work. You have to help unload a hot attic, U-Haul trucks, and storage units, you help set up Camp and go through training the day before the kids arrive. You must put on a smile, keep your energy high and attitude positive the entire week, even when you are tired, hot, and cranky. It is for the kids. You may have to help a child with special needs or make multiple trips to the Med Shed or learn how to get a shy camper to interact with the group. You may even have to face some of your own fears to help someone else like climbing a 50 foot wall or killing a spider. Camp will test your limits. And it is all completely worth it.

Counselors who work directly with kids at Camp are assigned 1-5 campers of the same gender to care for 24/7 the week at Camp. New counselors are paired with returning counselors to ensure everyone is well equipped for the week that lies ahead.

Program Area Counselors work in a specific area during the day and then assist with ALL Camp events each evening. Program areas include Arts & Crafts, Glitz-n-Glamour, Painter’s Pit, Med Shed, Maintenance, Woodworking, Derby Cars, Photography, Videography, A/V Team, Boating, Shutterbug Studios, Fishing, Team Building, Rooster’s Crew (Dining Hall), Kickin’ Kitchen (Culinary), Glaze-n-Blaze (Ceramics), Stitch-n-Time (Sewing), Ropes & Climbing Wall (certification required prior to Camp), Waterfront (Red Cross WSI certification required prior to Camp), and Special Events (Decorating team).

Our greatest needs are certified lifeguards, skilled seamstresses, photographers, videographers, medical staff, and male counselors to work with kids.

Camp is very diverse with our campers ranging from 4-16, Counselors In Training (CIT) are age 17 and are former campers, Junior Counselors (JC) are former campers age 18-19 and Counselors range from ages 20-75. The friendships, networking and bonding are phenomenal. You will gain work experience and training that can help you further your career and education. You also get the opportunity to act like a responsible big kid doing crazy activities with the campers.

Whether you are a Returning or New Counselor you must be able to answer YES to the following:

  • You must be at least 20 years old or you are a former camper, age 18-19.
  • You agree to arrive at Camp on Saturday, July 1st between 11:30am – 12:30pm, stay all week because it is a residential Camp, and depart on Saturday, July 8th when all counselors are dismissed (approximately 1pm).
