o For The Family Gift Bags – the items below will create the spectacular welcome gift bags for each family. Any amount you can collect of any of these items will help. And these items don’t all have to be the same brand, size, etc. The goal is to collect all Family Gift Bag items by September 17th, as a group of volunteers will be working to put the bags together then.
o x 30 sets of the following personal items (hotel-type sizes) for families
o x 30 hand sanitizer,
o x 30 sunscreen,
o x 15 disposable cameras
o x 30 flashlights with batteries
o x 30 family game books (example)— word games, I Spy games, mazes
o x 30 games (example)— a combined set of checkers/chess, card games (UNO, etc.), small family oriented board games
o Kids Juice Drinksx8 cases –kid-sized, 100% juice boxes (any flavors). Any amount you can get is great. If you decide to purchase any of this the cheapest prices are Wal-Mart, Sam’s, Costco
o Fresh Fruitx8 bags or cases – apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, etc. NOTE: This should be purchased and brought to the Happy Days office no sooner than Tuesday (Sept. 21st) or Wednesday (Sept. 22nd). Or you could simply purchase it and bring to Camp with you.
o Snacks – no special amount (but there are roughly 150 people). Healthy snacks and some not-so-healthy snacks. Things that are individually wrapped (e.g., Lance’s crackers, personal pkgs of cookies, fruit roll ups, individual bags of chips, etc. Stuff none of us should really eat much of, but encourage people to indulge on while on vacation.
o Firewood – We will have a big fire for everyone to gather around, Saturday night. How much wood is needed? Enough to burn a good sized fire for 3-4 hours. Wood needs to be seasoned (dried) and preferably a mixture of slow burning hardwood (e.g., oak, maple, etc.) and fast burning softwood (e.g., pine). Split wood would be best. But if all you can get is whole logs, we can split it at Camp…no problem. We’ll make a lumbar jack competition out of it.
Kids Books. Lots and lots of kids books. New books. Old Books (in good condition). Books that suit all ages. We’re going to create a children’s library where the kids and parents can take the books home. While the focus is on reading books, new sticker books and coloring books will go a long way as well.
o Kids Toys.New toys. Old toys (in great or new condition). Please pick toys that don’t need batteries and can be cleaned easily with a spray cleaner. These will be used in the Kidz Zone throughout the weekend. And if we have enough of them, we will allow kids to take them home. And with what’s left over, we will donate to the young mother’s program run by Clemson. These don’t need to be expensive toys. One person suggested looking at kids consignment shops and the Goodwill, as they apparently stock some new and nearly new toys.
o A Big Grill – we are grilling out our own lunch Friday afternoon (for volunteers) to save money. Do you own or have access to a large grill that would be easy to toss into the back of your truck, or perhaps tow behind a truck. We’ll be grilling hotdogs and hamburgers for roughly 30 of us.
10 by 10 Outdoor EZ UP Tents – we are in serious need of about 5 more of these tents. They are used constantly by the office and at both Camps. They can be purchased at Sams and Costco or online:
Outdoor Games: (these items can be borrowed and returned to you if you want to let us use it for the weekend, please put your name on it) 2 sets of horseshoes, 2 sets of croquet, 2 sets of ladder golf, any outdoor Nerf games. Check game areas of Target, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Cosco and Sams.
Battery Powered Drills (for you to bring and for us to borrow while there) 12 volt, 18 volt…it doesn’t matter. If you have one and you can bring it, please do. We will all be working together to put together the tables. The more drills we have, the quicker we put it together…the quicker we take it apart. If you would like to purchase one or two of these drills or donate a new one, it will become property of Special Events and be used year after year.
Bag Chairs (50 plus bag chairs) they are usually $5 – $10 at Wal-Mart, Costco, etc. They are the travel chairs that fold up and go in the bag. They do not need to be anything fancy.
Rub-on Tattoos (variety) these can be purchased at Party City, Wal-Mart or other accessory stores or online at Oriental Trading.
